Shell Streets

Una initiativa de Fundación MarVivo

Several dirt roads in San Carlos have holes in San Carlos large and uneven. These roads are frequently used by the public and for dragging boats to the dock for fishing and ecotourism. The MarVivo Foundation identified that discarded clam shells are contaminating the surrounding mangroves. By using discarded clam shells as material to improve the quality of roads, the MarVivo Foundation will improve the health of mangroves.

The benefits of shell streets:

  • Pesquería Catarina
  • Conchas-exceso-contaminación
  • Collaboration with Local Delegate
  • Alternative : Paved streets

A pilot road is being built and when proven successful, the MarVivo Foundation will work with the community to identify other pathways that need improvement and to locate discarded clam shells.
